Didn't go as we expected...

Hubby's surgery didn't happen.
He was on the operating table when he had "heart issues".
The heart monitor went crazy and everything came to a stop.
All of his pre-op testing was fine so this was a total surprise.
Had to see a cardiologist and have tests run.
As it turned out Dr feels it was an anxiety attack.
He is rescheduled for hip surgery on September 10th.
We'll try again.......

I did get some stitching done while waiting.
Working on  Red Work flour sack tea towels.
Looking at it now, I think I should have made the bow on the puppy red.
Not sure if I will change it.....
I found this cute Prairie Point edging idea on Pinterest.

It's beginning to feel like Fall with cooler mornings.
Great sleeping weather.
I love Fall, the smell of pumpkin bread baking, cinnamon sticks, cozy quilts....
if Winter didn't follow, life would be perfect.

Hope all is well in your world!

Hospitals are the pits

Lord knows, I know that first hand!
But it's Hubby's turn this time.
On Thursday he is scheduled to have his right hip replaced.
It's been a crazy week with pre-op appointments etc.
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
I have a beautiful Oriental customer quilt on my machine.
I was hoping to have it finished to show you this week.
But......life got in the way.

Here's my hand stitching and book ready for the
 hospital waiting game.

“War . . . next to love, has most captured the world’s imagination.”
Eric Partridge, British lexicographer, 1914

I'll leave you with a Pinterest Funny.
Ain't it the truth!

Log Cabin Fever

 Quilt, that is.
Each log cabin block measures 4 inches.
Each "log"  1/2 inch finished.
Isn't that incredible?
My customer is going to scallop the edges.
Love the red centers and flange,
really makes the quilt pop.
I think the quilted feathers add curves to the straight lines and texture.
Oh, I just finished the best book!
This book is so well written you will believe it is true.
I have never read anything quite like it.
It mixes history, with romance, hardship, courage, and humor.
Parts of the book where definitely difficult to read.
Some graphic hardship and violence.
What sad things humans can do to each other.
Moving right along.
I want to share this size chart I found on
Pinterest.
So handy.
I printed one and pinned it
to my design wall.

Well, I hope it's not to hot in your neck of the woods.
We're 95* with 150% humidity.
It's a Popsicle kind of day!

Vintage Basket Summer Quilt

Had a wonderful trip to Tomah this weekend.
My beautiful granddaughter and I had lunch at the European Cafe
(fanciest place in town) and then spent the afternoon doing what we love to do best.
Baking. Cookies.
Didn't I tell you she is a cutie!

Here is the new recipe she found for us to bake.
The vanilla pudding makes the cookies soft & chewy.
VERY GOOD!
Makes about 6 dozen.  Click on the recipe to enlarge and print.

I've been on a binding kick lately.
Practicing those scallop edges again.

I may have to trim my front scrubs or find a new place to take quilt pictures.

This quilt is called a "summer quilt".
Hand Embroidery on light weight muslin.
This quilt was made NOT to have a batting and backing
but to be used in warmer months.
Here is a photo of the top section with
hand embroidered flowers for the "pillow tuck".
The hand work on this piece was so beautifully done.
The back side is as neat as the front.
I used a butterfly floral backing and binding.
The top has some permanent stains from age and being folded.
But the beautiful hand embroidery stitches shine thru on this piece.

Working on customer quilts this week.
Staying cool in my studio.

No more quilts to bind.
Back to yo-yo city.
Only 500 more to go.

Stay cool!

Vintage Finish

I just finished binding two of my vintage finds.
I know, I know, how can I stand having a quilt on my lap in this heat?
Well, I just can't sit and watch TV empty handed.
I feel like I'm wasting my time.
Of course, unless it's an "edge of your seat" thriller
which hasn't happened in a l-o-n-g time.

Remember this pink beauty?
Bound it "scrappy" to complement the blocks.

Here she is all quilted and washed.
Love the wrinkled look the 100% cotton backing and batting give it.
And that Bubble Gum Pink!

This is my latest "conversation print" quilt.
I'm calling them "conversation print" quilts
because there's just so much to talk about when you look close.
See the variety of fabrics?
Bet you can find one that you just love.....

The squares are 1 1/2 inches each.
I added red polka dot binding to make it a even happier quilt.
Again, machine washed and dried for that vintage feel.

Heading out of town this weekend to visit my oldest son and his family.
Three of my grandbabies have birthdays this month.
That's one BIG cake.

To hot to handle

The weather that is.
Around 96* all weekend.
Spent time on the porch, drinking pink lemonade

and reading a new magazine.
Have you seen this?
A girl Junkers' dream come true.

Happened upon it at the grocery store.
A bit pricey.....$9.99
 but worth every penny.
No advertisments and filled with ideas.

Plus tips from Mike and Frank THE American Pickers,
My favorite two guys.
OOOOh how I'd love to "pick" with them!

No big plans for the 4th of July.
How about you?
Going to work on a few projects I hope to post soon.
Binding one of my rescued beauties, finishing up a table topper,
stitching blocks of yo-yos together.
A quilters' work is never done.

Stay safe this holiday week and

I Get Around....

I put some miles on this weekend.
On Saturday with girlfriends and Sunday Elkhorn.

Our first stop Saturday morning, Hawthorne Hill Farm.
For the Rust, Ruffles, Restore! Barn Sale.
Here's Bonnie's website if you'd like to take a look.
Next sale August 11 & 12.
I can't wait!

Next stop, Cedarburg WI to the Quilt Museum.
There are 3 exhibits hanging.
Nancy Zieman's Landscapes,
Chicago School of Fusing and
Cheddar Isn't Always Cheese.
Needless to say the antique cheddar quilts.....my favorite.
A day with friends filled with laughter, great food and quilts.....perfect!

Early to bed for me Saturday night.
Hubby and I were on the road at 6 am Sunday morning
headed to the Elkhorn Flea Market.
The weather was cool and overcast
which made walking around, hunting for treasures, bearable.
Unlike the 100+ heat we have been having.

LOOK WHAT I FOUND!
Or should I say what found me?
This hand appliqued quilt top.
Don't ya love the colors?
The yellow makes it such a happy quilt.
Look at all that white space for me to quilt.
OOOOh, I wish I knew the history of this piece.
All those perfect circles, exquisitely hand stitched.
This wasn't her first quilt that's for sure.
Maybe her last?

Can you believe June is almost over?
Lordy, Lordy, were does the time go?
The older I get the faster the clock turns.

Have a great week!

Sweetie Pie was here

Oh my, what a busy week for Grandma.
Our youngest grandbaby, who will be two in July, came to stay for a few days.
Didn't get much work done but had fun playing dolls, puzzles and swinging.
Took her with me to our Guild meeting Thursday night she was a little angel.

Hamming it up for the camera.

It's been warm and humid the last couple days.
Perfect weather to play in my "studio".
I made new pillows for my front porch rockers.
Want to share with you a cheap inexpensive way to make pillow forms.

Cut a piece of quilt batting 1 inch larger than the size pillow you want to make.
Stitch an envelope using 1/2" seams, leaving a 5-6 inch opening.
Turn. Stuff with regular poly stuffing.
Stitch close.
Makes for a really smooth, lump free pillow.
GREAT use for left over batting and soooo easy to make.

I know I'm a little early for Halloween but you have to see this quilt.
Kathleen did a fantastic job!

LOOK at all those applique blocks!

The details.

And check out Sue's flower quilt.
Sue added sparkle and button embellishments.
Will have to get the "after" picture.
Love the blue hand dyed background fabric
with that orange!

Well, I'm off to quilt the yellow fan quilt I showed you last week.
I steamed it to an inch of it's life but it's still waving at me.
No way it will lie flat.
Hope to bind it this weekend.

Elkhorn Flea Market is Sunday.....I can't wait.
Have a great week.

A quick note.
Is the font "funny" (all curly) on your screen?
Blogger, for some reason, shows me two different fonts.
Here, on my PC it looks almost unreadable.
On my tablet the font looks correct.
Just hope you can read it.
