SCORE!

What a beautiful weekend!
The weather was perfect for junkin at both
"The Pec Thing" and Elkhorn.

The "Pec Thing" was alittle disappointing.
(Just my humble opinion remember)
We arrived bright and early to be there when the gate open
only to wait in line for 40 minutes.
They had just one poor lady taking $$$ at the gate!
But most importantly, I couldn't find a bargain.
You know what they say about the thrill of the hunt.
Trust me, I hunted.
We actually left without making a purchase.
But it was fun looking.

The Elkhorn gate system is perfect.
They come down the line taking your $$$
and as soon as the gate opens everyone is off and running!
Plus I found a few bargains!

Let me start by showing you one of the treasures I found.
A LARGE mystery stack of linens for $3.00.
I forgot to get a picture before I opened it.
Just to excited to see what was inside.
There were miscellaneous doilies, kitchen towels,
a pillowcase, a sweet lace apron and these
2 FEED SACKS!
The one on the left is definitely faded and torn.
But hey, I'll just cut around the bad spots.
The green one is in pristine condition.
I'm going to hang it up in my studio and admire it for awhile.
But that's not all.......

Look at this GORGEOUS album quilt top I found.
With Bubble Gum pink sashings!

No rips, stains or tears.
And a bargain.
I love it!
I can't wait to go back in June.

Want to share a customer tabletopper I finished this week.
And the back.

If you need a good cake recipe look no further.

No cake pictures.
Nance make this for our retreat and it
was gone before I knew it.
Going to bake one this afternoon to take to the grandkids.
I'm going Tuesday for a few days to help out.
And you know, a Grandma can't visit without bringing a treat!

Have a great week.

Happy Spring!

Oh my....SURPRISE! SURPRISE!
Blogger has a new format for posting.
Keep your fingers crossed, I'll do my best.

I've been busy..........
Had the youngest 3 grandkids (under six years) for the weekend.

It was their Mommy's birthday. So on Sunday when they came to pick them up
we surprised her with a special dinner, a very decorated birthday cake and handmade cards.
Wouldn't you know, it rained all weekend!
Lots of coloring, puzzles, movies and Uno games for Papa & me.
I Love to have them around!

Spend last weekend at retreat.
12 crazy quilters and a ton of chocolate.
What could be better?
I worked on a 30's pinwheel quilt, set on point,
that just needs borders.
I can't decide, piano keys (like the pattern called for) or
maybe a ribbon? Or flying geese? Zigzag?
Need to leave wide open spaces for feathers.
I spearheaded a sewing marathon to piece two "comfort" quilts
for guild members who are facing serious health issues.

We wanted something bright and cheery that said "Spring".
Members wrote words of encouragement and signatures in the white strips

The pattern "Summer in the Park" is a free video
from Missouri Star Quilt Company.
They made it look so easy, and it was!
EXCEPT......edges are on the bias.

And you know how tricky bias edges can be.

My title was "Happy Spring" because I wanted to show you how
beautiful my flowers are in the front yard.
I can't wait to fill my planters on the porch, trying to hold off for
another week or so. Temps are still dropping in the evenings.

Hope all is well in your world.

Ain't it the truth!

Let's Play Catch Up....

The Bunny has come and gone.
Company has come and gone.
While my SIL was here we made homemade hand lotion.
Purchased everything at the Dollar General for approximately $5.75.
You need just 3 simple ingredients.
Baby Lotion-Vitamin E cream-Vaseline

Click on Photo to see how easy it is to make!
Great Mother's Day or Teacher gift.

This new recipe was a hit.
Served it with Baked Ziti and a salad.

Very easy and quick to make and tasted like those delicious biscuits
served at Red Lobster.
Again, click on the photo for the link.
Both recipes came from Pinterest......of course.

I just finished a great book.
If you love historial novels like I do you won't be disappointed.

The Dressmaker
"Just in time for the centennial anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic
comes a vivid, romantic, and relentlessly compelling historical novel
about a spirited young woman who survives the disaster
only to find herself embroiled in the media frenzy left in the wake of the tragedy".

Took a road trip this past weekend to Kalona IA.
What a wonderful group. So much knowledge.
The program was on the works and life of Ruby Short MccKim.

Amish Country

If you love quilt history be sure to check for a group in your area.

A customer quilt from last winter.
A Judy Neimeyer paper pieced beauty.

Great Job Sharon!

Well, that's about it.
My life up to the minute.
Hope all is well in your world.

To leave you with a smile....

Caught the bug yet?

There's a bug going around.....watch out you could be next.
It just missed me.

Anne, from Bunny Hill Designs started the darn thing.
The Scrappy Plate Club.
I'm a little late for the party but enjoying all the eye candy.
Beautiful color combos and some wool mixed in.

How did I miss catching the bug?
It reminded me that I had started working on a Dresden Plate awhile back.
Let's see if I can find it.
The plates are vintage.
Purchased long ago from who knows where.
I found the perfect yellow to match the already finished centers.
Appliqued them down.
Sashing is reproduction prints.
Don't they blend well?
Add borders and quilt. I'm finished.
What am I waiting for!

I've been bitten by this bug before in 2007....

Hmmm, I like the blue background.
Of course, feathers in the border!

Found another "to die for" recipe on...
wait for it...
Pinterest.
(Photo from Pinterest)
Very easy to make using basic "in your cupboard" ingredients.
The only change I suggest is for the glaze.
Two cups powdered sugar  made it very-very sweet.
One cup would do.
Your house will smell heavenly.
And your friends will love you.

Busy this week getting ready for company from St Louis.
Gathering my Easter bunny treats for the grand kids.
Quilting a fun-bright twister quilt.
Wait till you see.
Hoping your week is full of sunny days.
Happy Easter!

Lovin this sunshine!

And the unseasonably warm weather.
The grandkids came for the weekend and played outside till dark.
They love being able to run and visit the neighbor kids.

They're growing up so fast.

The grandkids enjoy helping out in the kitchen.
We baked Chocolate Chip Cookie bars.
Found the recipe on Pinterest.
Where else?
Click on the photo for the recipe.
SOOO much quicker than cookies and just as good.

(Photo from Pinterest)

Paid a visit to the Apple Butter House.
The barn is decorated for Spring.
So many vintage-prim beautiful things!

I found this vintage quilt pocket for my front door.
It's soooo me.
If you're in the area be sure to stop in and say hello to Caroline.
She's a real sweetheart.

I'm still working on yo-yos .
Had the longarm repair man "Ray"
(my new best friend) here 2 days last week.
Hoping "Violet" is fixed and ready to rumble tomorrow.
Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Enjoy the day!

Howdy!

Spring, make that SUMMER weather is here!
It's so much easier getting out of bed with the sun shining
and the birds chirping.
Don't you agree?

Want to share a little project I made
for my quilting friends at Guild.
A Matchbook Needle Keeper.

Isn't it just the cutest?

Easy-Peasy to make.
Here are the directions.
Since I had only boring white cardstock on hand
I needed to pump it up a bit.
Sew......I ironed Steam A Seam 2 on the back of cute fabric,
then pressed the fabric onto the cardstock.
It worked!
Who knew?

On Saturday I had the pleasure of attending the
WI Quilt Study Group meeting in Madison.
Janette Dwyer spoke about her favorite subject
"My girl Ruby"
Have you heard of Ruby Short McKim?
She is nationally known as a quilt designer of the 1920s and 1930s.
A woman ahead of her time!
For both her creative and business talents.
Janette bought lots of quilts and patterns to share.

Her enthusiasm for Ruby is contagious!
I purchased the Roly Poly Circus pattern.
You know I love redwork!
Here is a picture of the quilt I found on Google.
With all the projects I have going maybe I will get this made for
 my great-grandchildren?

Check out this beautiful customer quilt.
Jean did a fabulous job working with flannel.
Pictures are from this winter but hey......
I forgot to show it.

The backing flannel is so cozy.

Well, I'm off to work.....my machine is calling.
Quilt On.
