I Get Around....

I put some miles on this weekend.
On Saturday with girlfriends and Sunday Elkhorn.

Our first stop Saturday morning, Hawthorne Hill Farm.
For the Rust, Ruffles, Restore! Barn Sale.
Here's Bonnie's website if you'd like to take a look.
Next sale August 11 & 12.
I can't wait!

Next stop, Cedarburg WI to the Quilt Museum.
There are 3 exhibits hanging.
Nancy Zieman's Landscapes,
Chicago School of Fusing and
Cheddar Isn't Always Cheese.
Needless to say the antique cheddar quilts.....my favorite.
A day with friends filled with laughter, great food and quilts.....perfect!

Early to bed for me Saturday night.
Hubby and I were on the road at 6 am Sunday morning
headed to the Elkhorn Flea Market.
The weather was cool and overcast
which made walking around, hunting for treasures, bearable.
Unlike the 100+ heat we have been having.

LOOK WHAT I FOUND!
Or should I say what found me?
This hand appliqued quilt top.
Don't ya love the colors?
The yellow makes it such a happy quilt.
Look at all that white space for me to quilt.
OOOOh, I wish I knew the history of this piece.
All those perfect circles, exquisitely hand stitched.
This wasn't her first quilt that's for sure.
Maybe her last?

Can you believe June is almost over?
Lordy, Lordy, were does the time go?
The older I get the faster the clock turns.

Have a great week!

Sweetie Pie was here

Oh my, what a busy week for Grandma.
Our youngest grandbaby, who will be two in July, came to stay for a few days.
Didn't get much work done but had fun playing dolls, puzzles and swinging.
Took her with me to our Guild meeting Thursday night she was a little angel.

Hamming it up for the camera.

It's been warm and humid the last couple days.
Perfect weather to play in my "studio".
I made new pillows for my front porch rockers.
Want to share with you a cheap inexpensive way to make pillow forms.

Cut a piece of quilt batting 1 inch larger than the size pillow you want to make.
Stitch an envelope using 1/2" seams, leaving a 5-6 inch opening.
Turn. Stuff with regular poly stuffing.
Stitch close.
Makes for a really smooth, lump free pillow.
GREAT use for left over batting and soooo easy to make.

I know I'm a little early for Halloween but you have to see this quilt.
Kathleen did a fantastic job!

LOOK at all those applique blocks!

The details.

And check out Sue's flower quilt.
Sue added sparkle and button embellishments.
Will have to get the "after" picture.
Love the blue hand dyed background fabric
with that orange!

Well, I'm off to quilt the yellow fan quilt I showed you last week.
I steamed it to an inch of it's life but it's still waving at me.
No way it will lie flat.
Hope to bind it this weekend.

Elkhorn Flea Market is Sunday.....I can't wait.
Have a great week.

A quick note.
Is the font "funny" (all curly) on your screen?
Blogger, for some reason, shows me two different fonts.
Here, on my PC it looks almost unreadable.
On my tablet the font looks correct.
Just hope you can read it.

It's that time of the year...

for garage, rummage, and yard sales.
Whatever you call them, bargains await!
Like this cute planter I found for $2.00
$2.00!
Perfect on our front porch.

I used silk flowers, from my stash, for the arrangement.
I've never been able to hang anything on the porch before.
Hubby didn't want me to use nails in the vinyl siding.
But look what I found:

Caroline, at Apple Butter House, sells them.
Check out her link on my sidebar.

Yep, I found another quilt top.
LOOK at this colorful FAN beauty.
I do believe it may have been a precut kit.
Notice all of the fan blades have exactly the same fabric placement?
The seller had no history on the top.
It was purchased as part of a storage unit sale.
The top will be a challenge to quilt.
The seller machine washed and dried the top hoping to improve it's condition.
Not good.
I ironed out the wrinkles as best I could, but it's still "puffy".
I'll be sure to post a picture after it's quilted.

Have you seen this funny cell phone accessory yet?

Works like a charm!
I can hear so much better on my phone.
Isn't it a hoot? My grandkids will love it.
Found mine at Farm & Fleet ($9.99).

OOOh, I baked a delicious cake last week.
Found the recipe on Pinterest.
The combination of fresh strawberries and Greek yogurt.
WOW!
The cake is so moist it lasts for days.
Well, maybe at your house.

Have customer quilt photos to share but I'll wait til next time.
I know you want to run right into your kitchen and bake that cake!

It doesn't have to be perfect

to be beautiful!
Here's my proof.

Notice how crooked the rows are?
How kiddie-whompis (great word) the circles are?
No smooth lines here.
No small applique stitches
But what a charmer!
Look at all the different fabrics.
Scraps from her life.

Wouldn't you love to know the story?
How this quilt top ended up on a table at a flea market in WI?
Was this the quilt maker's first quilt? or her last?
Why wasn't she able to finish it?

I'm thrilled to find these treasures.
To be able to complete the work of a woman
I do not know, whose name is lost forever.
I'm sure she would love the red polka dot binding
don't you?
