Fall in WISCONSIN

It’s  officially Fall in WI the  smell of pumpkin bread baking in the oven, and the chilly weather. Did I say chilly?” They are predicting  SNOW flurries for Halloween!
We are heading up to Green Bay this weekend. Mike  is going to the GB Packer game Monday night. Not me,  I’m going to stay warm and cozy with the granbabies.

Today is the first time I’ve baked anything, since my stroke.  Figured we didn’t need any sweet treats around tempting us. But I love to bake!The house smells soooooooogood.
Tomorrow I’m sewing with the girls at the retreat house. Need to bring a little Pumpkin bread along. And then take  some to GB.   My recipe makes 3 loaves.

My friend, Nance lent me the movie.

It is her all time favorite.

And now mine.

Gosford Park also stars 

the wonderful Maggie Smith.

And your going to need a 

snack for the movie.

How about Microwave Caramel Corn?

 

Here is the recipe: 
6 qt. popped corn (unsalted)
1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter
1/4 c. light corn syrup
1 c. brown sugar
Pop popcorn and put in large microwavable bowl. Set aside. 

Melt butter in a large measuring pitcher. 

Add brown sugar, corn syrup, vanilla and salt. 

Stir. Cook in microwave for 30 seconds. Remove and stir.

 Cook in microwave for additional 3 minutes. Remove and stir. 

Add baking soda and stir well. 

 Pour this mixture over the popped corn. 

 You probably won't get the popcorn all coated in this step. 

  Put the bowl in the microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds.

 Take out and stir again, mixing well.

 Put back in microwave for 1 minute 20 seconds. 

 Remove and spread on a cookie sheet. Allow to cool.  

As it cools, gently break the pieces apart . 

SOOOOOO addicting!

Sweet Things

Been busy working on some red work pillows.

I love how they turned out.

I used Micro Soft Word to print the sayings.
The font is called PC Straight.
Transferred using my Frixion pen

stitched with perle cotton.
The fabric squares are scraps of flour sugar
one of my favorite lines. 

Finished off the pillow back with a yo-yo and button.

Layered the front and back and added binding.

Just like a little quilt. 

Sooo much easier than piping in my book and 

ooooo sew cute.

My Old Favorites

 Thanksgiving?

 Here are a few of my family favorites

that I make every year.

Wouldn't be Thanksgiving without Cranberries, 

a Wisconsin favorite!

 

And our favorite pumpkin dessert.

We are spending the holiday with my oldest son and his family. 

Can't wait to catch up with the grandkids!

What a beautiful weekend!

The weather was perfect for junkin at both

"The Pec Thing" and Elkhorn.

The "Pec Thing" was alittle disappointing.

(Just my humble opinion remember)

We arrived bright and early to be there when the gate open

only to wait in line for 40 minutes.

They had just one poor lady taking $$$ at the gate!

But most importantly, I couldn't find a bargain.

You know what they say about the thrill of the hunt.

Trust me, I hunted.

We actually left without making a purchase.

But it was fun looking.

 The Elkhorn gate system is perfect.

They come down the line taking your $$$

and as soon as the gate opens everyone is off and running!

Plus I found a few bargains!

Let me start by showing you one of the treasures I found.

A LARGE mystery stack of linens for $3.00.

I forgot to get a picture before I opened it.

Just to excited to see what was inside.

There were miscellaneous doilies, kitchen towels,

a pillowcase, a sweet lace apron and these

2 FEED SACKS!

The one on the left is definitely faded and torn.

But hey, I'll just cut around the bad spots. 

The green one is in pristine condition.

I'm going to hang it up in my studio and admire it for awhile.

But that's not all.......

Look at this GORGEOUS album quilt top I found.

With Bubble Gum pink sashings!

No rips, stains or tears.

And a bargain.

I love it!

I can't wait to go back in June.

Going to bake one this afternoon to take to the grandkids.

 Anne, from Bunny Hill Designs started the darn thing.

I'm a little late for the party but enjoying all the eye candy.

Beautiful color combos and some wool mixed in.

How did I miss catching the bug?

It reminded me that I had started working on a Dresden Plate awhile back.

Let's see if I can find it.

The plates are vintage.

Purchased long ago from who knows where.

I found the perfect yellow to match the already finished centers.

Appliqued them down.

Sashing is reproduction prints.

Don't they blend well?

Add borders and quilt. I'm finished.

What am I waiting for!

I've been bitten by this bug before in 2007....

Cinnamon Roll Cake.

Very easy to make using basic "in your cupboard" ingredients.

The only change I suggest is for the glaze.

Two cups powdered sugar  made it very-very sweet.

One cup would do. 

Your house will smell heavenly.

And your friends will love you.
